In a recent column penned for The Times Of India, Twinkle Khanna, the accomplished actor-turned-author, delivered a humorous take on the perennial question of Valentine’s Day gifts in long-term marriages, spanning over two decades. The acclaimed actress amusingly speculated about the holiday’s origins, playfully suggesting it might have originated as a shrewd marketing ploy to boost post-Christmas sales.
Adding a touch of intellectual depth, Khanna referenced the thoughts of German-American philosopher Hannah Arendt, underscoring the importance of openly discussing personal experiences. Exploring the tradition of gift-giving on Valentine’s Day, she noted, “With all its consumerism, Valentine’s Day perhaps makes the abstraction of love more concrete.”
Khanna went on to share candid insights, asserting that, for many women married for over a decade, the honest response to the question of Valentine’s Day gifts would often be, “As usual, a headache.” She humorously reflected on love as the ultimate thought experiment, a paradox where accepting each other’s flaws fosters an imperfectly perfect connection, transcending traditional expressions of affection like red roses and Archie’s cards.
Celebrating her 23rd wedding anniversary on January 17 in London, Khanna coincidentally marked another significant milestone in her life – her graduation ceremony after successfully completing her Masters in Fiction Writing at Goldsmiths, University of London.
Lauding his wife’s latest achievement, Bollywood superstar Akshay Kumar took to Instagram to share a heartfelt note, expressing admiration for Khanna’s dedication to balancing a full-fledged student life with her responsibilities at home, her career, and their family. He praised her as a “super woman” and congratulated her on the well-deserved accomplishment.
