On February 26, 1999, the gripping thriller “Kaun?” made its debut, completing its entire production in a remarkable 19 days. Starring Manoj Bajpayee and Urmila Matondkar, the film, despite being underrated, remains a hidden gem, unraveling a tense narrative of a serial killer and another individual confined together during a stormy night.
In a recent development, Manoj Bajpayee reunites with Allu Arjun after 12 years, expressing sentiments about “old bonds and new tales.” The acclaimed actor showcased his versatility in “Kaun?” where he flawlessly portrayed his character. Director Ram Gopal Varma enlisted Anurag Kashyap, known for their collaboration on “Satya,” as the writer for this project.
Reflecting on the 22-year-old film, Bajpayee shared in an interview with IANS, “Kaun? had really mesmerized people when it was released. Till now people talk about the film, which is so overwhelming. You do something 22 years back and people still talk about it in so much detail. They remember it so vividly.”
When asked about the prospect of a remake, Bajpayee expressed, “But I don’t think I would be part of a remake, it’s so boring. A story that you have already done… rather than doing it all over again, it is better to do something new. Anybody else should feature in it and they should experiment with the role in their own way. They may be better than me.”
The movie, featuring a cast including Urmila Matondkar, Manoj Bajpayee, and Sushant Singh, was completed within an astonishing 19-day timeframe, a testament to its efficiency and creativity.
Furthermore, “Kaun?” underwent dubbing into Telugu with the title “Yevaru?” and was later adapted into Kannada as “Shock” in 2010. Celebrating 30 years in cinema, Manoj Bajpayee’s exceptional career was recently honored at the Tagore Centre in Berlin.
Known for his impactful roles, Bajpayee continues to shine, recently basking in the success of “The Family Man 2” and making an appearance in “Dial 100.” Excitingly, he is set to feature in “The Family Man 3” in the near future.
