In a much-anticipated release after a prolonged wait of five years, ‘Ayalaan,’ starring Sivakarthikeyan in the lead role, hit theaters on January 12. The science fiction film garnered positive reviews on its opening day, particularly resonating with family audiences and children.
On Pongal Day (January 15), ‘Ayalaan’ witnessed a significant surge in its box office performance, grossing approximately Rs 9 crore in India and a global collection of around Rs 10.5 crore on day 4.
Tamil Nadu emerged as a stronghold for the film, with family audiences choosing to celebrate the Pongal festival by flocking to theaters, resulting in an average occupancy rate of 85% in the state. The four-day global collection for ‘Ayalaan’ has officially crossed the Rs 50 crore mark, as confirmed by the makers in a new poster release. The actual figures surpass the initial estimates, indicating a robust run at the box office.
In Tamil Nadu alone, ‘Ayalaan’ reportedly raked in around Rs 25 crore in the first four days. The film faces stiff competition in its home state from Dhanush’s ‘Captain Miller,’ released concurrently.
Directed by Ravikumar, the science fiction fantasy film boasts a star-studded cast, including Rakul Preet Singh, Sharad Kelkar, Isha Koppikar, Yogi Babu, Karunakaran, Banu Priya, and Bala Saravanan alongside Sivakarthikeyan. AR Rahman’s music and the commendable VFX work have contributed to the film’s positive reception.
‘Ayalaan’ appears poised to become one of Sivakarthikeyan’s most successful box office ventures, laying a solid foundation by capturing the attention of family audiences.
