Renowned singer Bhavatharini, daughter of the legendary musician Ilaiyaraaja, has left a void in the music industry as her mortal remains were repatriated to Chennai from Sri Lanka. The 47-year-old National Award-winning artist succumbed to cancer on Thursday while undergoing treatment in Sri Lanka.
On January 26, 2024, the final journey of Bhavatharini commenced at Ilaiyaraaja’s residence in Chennai. Actors Karthi and Vishal Krishna were among the first to pay their respects, dressed in white attire, offering condolences to the grieving family. The news of her passing has prompted condolences from various corners of the film fraternity, expressing support during this challenging time.
Bhavatharini’s significant contributions to the Tamil film industry have left an indelible mark on its musical landscape. Having made her singing debut with ‘Raasaiya,’ she went on to venture into music composition in 2002, debuting with the film ‘Mitr, My Friend,’ directed by Revathy. Her musical prowess continued to shine in subsequent projects, including ‘Phir Milenge’ and various other films.
The final rites of Bhavatharini are slated to take place in Chennai on Saturday, January 27, 2024, providing an opportunity for family, friends, and fans to bid farewell to the talented artist. She is survived by her husband, R Sabariraj.
