Renowned actor and philanthropist Gary Sinise has shared the tragic news of his son’s passing due to a rare form of cancer. McCanna Anthony “Mac” Sinise, aged 33, fought a brave battle against Chordoma for over five years before succumbing on January 5, 2024.
Gary Sinise disclosed this heart-wrenching information through a heartfelt blog post on the Gary Sinise Foundation website. In the post, he revealed that Mac had managed to record an album in the months leading up to his demise.
The actor expressed his grief in a touching tribute, stating, “The week the album went to press, Mac lost his battle with cancer. He died on January 5, 2024, at 3:25 pm, and was laid to rest on January 23rd. Like any family experiencing such a loss, we are heartbroken and have been managing as best we can…I am so blessed, fortunate, and proud to be his dad.”
Mac’s battle with Chordoma began in August 2018, coinciding with his mother’s diagnosis of stage three breast cancer. Despite rigorous treatment, including surgeries and procedures, Mac’s health continued to decline, leading to his unfortunate demise.
Gary Sinise reflected on the challenges their family faced, acknowledging the difficulty of losing a child. He extended his sympathy to those who have experienced a similar loss, emphasizing the profound impact of such an event.
In his post, Gary drew a parallel between Mac’s determination and the resilient soldier depicted in the film ‘1917’. Despite facing relentless challenges, Mac, like the character in the movie, refused to quit and kept moving forward.
While mourning the loss of his son, Gary found solace in knowing that Mac is no longer suffering. He expressed, “While our hearts ache at missing him, we are comforted in knowing that Mac is no longer struggling, and inspired and moved by how he managed it. He fought an uphill battle against a cancer that has no cure, but he never quit trying.”
