Renowned Hollywood actor Cillian Murphy has expressed his endorsement for acclaimed filmmaker Christopher Nolan to take the reins of the next James Bond installment. The actor, who has shared collaborations with Nolan since their work on ‘Batman Begins’ in 2005, voiced his enthusiasm for the idea, emphasizing Nolan’s passion for the Bond franchise.
In an interview with RSVP magazine, Murphy disclosed, “I would. Of course, I’d go and see a Chris Nolan Bond movie. I feel though he’s on a journey with his own material. I mean, he’s a huge Bond fan. He loves the movies.” Despite acknowledging Nolan’s fondness for the spy genre, Murphy refrained from speculating on Nolan’s intentions, stating, “I’m not going to speak for him.”
The 47-year-old actor hinted at the subtle Bond influences in Nolan’s previous works, noting, “I think there’s parts of every movie that are a little bit Bond, aren’t there? Not consciously, but I think you can kind of see it, particularly in ‘Inception’ and ‘Tenet’.” However, he remained coy about his potential involvement in a Nolan-directed Bond film, stating, “Let’s see what Chris comes up with.”
While dismissing the prospect of assuming the iconic role of James Bond after Daniel Craig, Murphy remained open to other roles in a Nolan blockbuster. Refusing to indulge in speculation about potential characters, he emphasized, “I’m not James Bond – that ship has sailed, shall we say.”
Reflecting on his past collaboration with Nolan, Murphy recounted how he unexpectedly landed the role of Scarecrow in ‘Batman Begins.’ Recalling the moment, he shared, “I was prepared for it. For me, just to be directed by Christopher Nolan, I was a young actor, and I loved the experience of it.” Murphy highlighted the unpredictable nature of Nolan’s casting decisions, saying, “Then as he always does, he called me out of the blue. He said, ‘Look, it’s not going to work out for Batman.’ And that’s how it started.”
The potential collaboration between Nolan and Murphy for a Bond film remains speculative, but the actor’s history with the director suggests that surprises may be in store.
