In a recent development, a 33-year-old man, David Crowe, accused of stalking pop sensation Taylor Swift outside her Manhattan townhouse, has been deemed unfit to stand trial. Crowe, a Seattle resident, was arrested three times late last month in the upscale Tribeca neighborhood, facing charges of stalking, harassment, and contempt.
Prosecutors revealed that Crowe violated a protective order issued on January 24, which mandated him to stay away from Swift and her residence. Following a psychiatric examination, it was determined that Crowe is unfit to stand trial, leading to the dismissal of the case. Consequently, he will be committed to the custody of the Office of Mental Health for necessary psychiatric treatment, as confirmed by the office of Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg.
Katherine LeGeros Bajuk of New York County Defender Services expressed satisfaction with the resolution, stating, “We are pleased that all parties now agree to the obvious truth that Mr. Crowe is too ill to proceed, and that he requires treatment, not jail. We look forward to ensuring Mr. Crowe is provided with the psychiatric treatment and supportive social services he needs to achieve a successful and stable re-entry into society.”
Court documents revealed that Crowe had been observed near Swift’s residence approximately 30 times since November 25. Swift’s Manhattan townhouse has been the target of multiple break-ins in the past, even in her absence, some of which involved individuals identified as stalkers.
As of now, a representative for Taylor Swift has not responded to requests for comments on this matter.
