In response to the recent ultimatum issued by the Film Exhibitors United Organisation of Kerala (FEUOK), threatening to withhold the release of Malayalam movies in theaters from February 22, the Kerala Film Producers’ Association and Film Distributors’ Association have jointly announced their non-cooperation with theaters that fail to screen upcoming releases, including the highly anticipated ‘Manjummel Boys.’
Allegations from FEUOK claim that producers are violating OTT window-period norms, prompting the Exhibitors’ Association to decide against screening new releases starting next week.
As reported by On Manorama, a joint statement from the producers and distributors confirmed the release of ‘Manjummel Boys’ on February 22. The statement emphasized that the film would be showcased in theaters as per the agreed-upon contracts. However, a stern warning was issued, expressing the producers’ reluctance to cooperate with any theater found in violation of the contractual terms.
The Exhibitors’ Association raised concerns, pointing to last-minute movie cancellations from chartered theaters as a pivotal issue affecting their business.
Meanwhile, ‘Manjummel Boys,’ directed by Chidambaram, features a stellar cast including Sreenath Bhasi, Soubin Shahir, Lal, Shebin Benson, and others in pivotal roles. The film, being the second outing for the director of ‘Jan.E. Man.,’ is one of the most awaited Malayalam movies of the month.
