Actress Malavika Mohanan, set to grace the screen alongside Chiyaan Vikram in the highly anticipated film ‘Thangalaan,’ directed by Pa Ranjith, recently provided fans with a glimpse into her dubbing journey for the project. As the film prepares for its January release, Mohanan spoke candidly about the challenges she faced in bringing her character to life through voice alone during a social media interaction with her followers.
Reflecting on the daunting task of dubbing, Mohanan admitted, “I am petrified of dubbings. But when it came to this film, it was such a hard character to get into.” Describing the unique demands of her role, she explained, “My character in ‘Thangalaan’ required me to get into that character all over again, without costume, without being on set, without doing the scene, and to still perform with the same energy, scream like her, speak like her, react to action sequences. It’s one of the most challenging things I have done. I don’t know how it’s turned out. We will all find out soon, but fingers crossed.”
Expressing her anxiety, Mohanan shared, “Yes, I am very scared. Every time I go for dubbing, I kind of ask my friends if they want to come so that they can handhold me through the process.”
Adding an intriguing dimension to her preparation for the film, Mohanan revealed that she had practiced silambam and learned horse riding.
‘Thangalaan’ is rumored to be based on a real event that occurred at the Kolar Gold Factory in Karnataka during the British rule. The film boasts a stellar cast, including Parvathy Thiruvothu and Pasupathy Masilamani in significant roles. Producer Gnanavel Raja, backing the project under his Studio Green banner, previously disclosed that the film has also been shot in 3D. As anticipation builds for the release, fans eagerly await the unveiling of Mohanan’s remarkable performance in ‘Thangalaan.’
