In a recent announcement by franchise producer Irwin Winkler, it has been revealed that American actor Michael B. Jordan is set to helm the directorial duties for the upcoming fourth installment of the ‘Creed’ series, as reported by a media outlet.
Jordan, who made his directorial debut with ‘Creed 3,’ in which he also played the role of heavyweight champion Adonis Creed, seems to be continuing his involvement in the director’s chair for the next installment. Despite reaching out to MGM for comment, Variety has not received a response regarding ‘Creed 4.’
The acclaimed actor initially portrayed Adonis in the 2015 film ‘Creed,’ followed by a sequel in 2018 and a third installment in 2023. Notably, Sylvester Stallone reprised his iconic role as Rocky Balboa in the first two ‘Creed’ films, serving as a mentor to Adonis, the son of his former adversary Apollo Creed (Carl Weathers). ‘Creed 3’ marked the first film in the franchise without Stallone.
Earlier this year, Variety reported on discussions between Michael B. Jordan and Amazon for the expansion of the “Creed” universe into both film and TV. While specific project details were limited, sources indicated that talks were underway to capitalize on the success of the MGM film franchise on Prime Video, following Amazon’s acquisition of MGM.
Winkler expressed optimism about the upcoming ‘Creed 4,’ stating, “We’re planning to do ‘Creed 4’ right now — it’s in the works — and we think we have a really good story, a really good plot.” He acknowledged a delay in plans due to external factors, mentioning a strike, but anticipates going into pre-production approximately a year from now, according to Variety’s report.
