Malayalam actress Parvathy Thiruvothu has lauded Hollywood actor Ryan Gosling for his empathetic response to the Oscar nominations, where he acknowledged the omission of ‘Barbie’ director Greta Gerwig and actor Margot Robbie. Gosling, nominated in the Best Supporting Actor category, declared, “There is no Ken without Barbie,” expressing disappointment over the snub.
Taking to Instagram, Parvathy shared her admiration for Gosling’s supportive stance, highlighting the scarcity of such allies in the industry. In her statement, she expressed a sense of distress, emphasizing the gender disparities faced by women in the industry, irrespective of their talent and contributions.
Parvathy’s poignant statement read, “This made me ache. Because there are no Ryan Goslings here. Here, no matter the talent, no matter the contribution, women who speak up and know their value will be avoided like plague. Replaced with ‘less problematic’ people. Problematic for them, because how else can they benefit from the inequality if challenged, eh?”
Gosling’s original statement underscored his disappointment at the lack of nominations for Greta Gerwig and Margot Robbie, recognizing their significant roles in the success of ‘Barbie.’
Meanwhile, the film ‘Barbie’ premiered on July 21 to positive reviews from audiences and achieved commendable box office numbers despite competition from Christopher Nolan’s ‘Oppenheimer.’
