In a recent media interaction, acclaimed filmmaker Prasanth Varma, whose latest film ‘Hanu Man’ emerged as a blockbuster, revealed his disinterest in creating high-budget sequels. The 34-year-old director, buoyed by the success of ‘Hanu Man,’ emphasized that he does not aspire to make ‘Jai Hanuman,’ the sequel, an extravagant production.
Despite receiving offers with an “unlimited budget” for ‘Jai Hanuman,’ Prasanth Varma stressed the importance of a measured approach to filmmaking. He believes in utilizing funds wisely to enhance the storytelling experience rather than indulging in unnecessary extravagance. According to Varma, the essence of a compelling film lies in its narrative, not in the scale of the budget.
Acknowledging the success of ‘Hanu Man,’ which achieved a remarkable 200 crore revenue from a modest budget of Rs 40 crore, Prasanth Varma humorously mentioned that his team now teases him for becoming a director known for delivering successful films on minimal budgets, a departure from his previous style.
Looking ahead to his next project, ‘Jai Hanuman,’ Varma envisions it as a significant installment in the cinematic universe he is constructing. Beyond a single sequel, the director is ambitiously building a universe where characters and narratives seamlessly connect, blending superhero elements with mythology to craft a rich and interconnected story.
Varma’s upcoming film, ‘Adhira,’ introduces a character endowed with abilities from Lord Indra, adding an intriguing dimension to his evolving cinematic universe.
Notably, Prasanth Varma is also venturing into the realm of superhero films with a female lead, aiming to create a connection with Indian women and potentially establish a cultural icon. Beyond entertainment, his goal is to develop relatable characters that resonate with the audience on a profound level.
Revealing his dynamic approach to filmmaking, Varma shared that his ideas evolve throughout the production process, from scripting to shooting to post-production. While he remains transparent with producers about potential budget overruns, he assures that any such deviations are aimed at enhancing the narrative.
Prasanth Varma’s commitment to storytelling over budgetary grandiosity reflects his unique vision and approach in the ever-evolving landscape of Indian cinema.
