One of his memorable performances was as Revathi’s father in the Karthik-starrer ‘Mouna Ragam,’ directed by the legendary Mani Ratnam. The news of his demise was met with condolences from various quarters, including acclaimed director Bharathiraja, who expressed his grief on social media, acknowledging Sankaran as his teacher.
Bharathiraja’s tweet read, “The demise of my teacher, director Mr. Ra Sankaran sir hurts. My deep condolences to his family who will be missing him.” The tweet was accompanied by a heartfelt message in Tamil.
Sankaran’s contribution to Tamil cinema extended beyond acting. He was also an associate director, leaving his mark on several noteworthy films. Some of his notable works include ‘Oru Kaidhiyin Diary,’ ‘Pathimoonam Number Veedu,’ ‘Amaran,’ ‘Chinna Gounder,’ ‘Sathi Leelavathi,’ and ‘Kadhal Kottai.’ His last on-screen appearance was in director Sundar C’s ‘Azhagarsamy’ in 1999.
As a director, Ra. Sankaran helmed several award-winning Tamil movies, including ‘Velum Mayilum Thunai’ and ‘Kumari Pennin Ullathile.’ His directorial repertoire also featured films such as ‘Then Sindhuthe Vaanam’ (1975), ‘Oruvanukku Oruthi’ (1977), and ‘Dhurga Dhevi’ (1977).
