In a candid revelation, acclaimed director Sekhar Kammula recently reflected on his 2014 film ‘Anaamika’, a bilingual remake of the Hindi hit ‘Kahaani’. Starring Nayanthara in the lead role, the film failed to resonate with audiences, marking a regrettable choice for the director. Kammula, known for his poignant narratives, admitted that the decision to remake ‘Kahaani’ amidst the backdrop of the Nirbhaya incident was driven by a lack of compelling scripts at the time.
In retrospect, Kammula acknowledged that casting Nayanthara, then a prominent figure in South Indian cinema, did not translate into the expected success at the box office. He expressed regret over the misalignment of the story’s appeal with the South Indian audience, a miscalculation that led to the film’s lukewarm reception.
Despite the setback, Sekhar Kammula remains active in the industry, currently helming the eagerly anticipated film ‘Kubera’ featuring stars like Dhanush, Nagarjuna, and Rashmika Mandanna. Meanwhile, Nayanthara continues to dominate headlines with her upcoming projects, including ‘Test’, ‘Manangatti Since 1960’, and ‘Toxic’, alongside Yash, directed by Geetu Mohandas. Additionally, the actress is set to make a comeback in Malayalam cinema opposite Nivin Pauly, promising fans more memorable performances in the pipeline.
