In a remarkable feat at the Indian box office, the survival thriller “Manjummel Boys” featuring Soubin Shahir, Lal Jr., Sreenath Bhasi, Balu Varghese, and Ganapathy in significant roles has crossed the coveted Rs 100 crore mark in its 22-day theatrical run. As reported by Sacnilk, the film’s gross collection in India has surged past Rs 100 crore, while the net collection stands at Rs 97 crore. Impressively, its global box office collection has surpassed Rs 175 crore.
Despite its prolonged stint in theaters, “Manjummel Boys” has managed to maintain a noteworthy Malayalam occupancy rate of 19.36%. Directed by Chidambaram, the film unfolds in the backdrop of 2006, chronicling the escapades of a group of carefree young men on a trip to Kodaikanal, Tamil Nadu. However, their adventure takes a perilous turn when one of them falls into a deep pit in the Guna Caves, setting off a gripping tale of survival and camaraderie.
On its 22nd day at the box office, the film reportedly raked in approximately Rs 2.25 crore in India, according to early estimates.
Despite its box office triumph, “Manjummel Boys” has encountered hurdles in its OTT release. Trade experts reveal that while the makers are seeking Rs 20 crore for the OTT rights, leading industry players have offered a maximum of only Rs 15 crore, reflecting the impact of its theatrical success on digital distribution negotiations.
