In a recent cinematic revelation, the official trailer for the period drama “Cabaret,” directed by Utsav Mukherjee, has been unveiled. The series features an impressive cast, including Puja Banerjee, Satyam Bhattacharya, and Santilal Mukherjee.
Set against the vibrant backdrop of Calcutta and other parts of West Bengal during the 1960s and ’70s, “Cabaret” unfolds an unconventional love story between Cabaret Dancer Miss Elina (played by Puja Banerjee) and Naxalite Militant Swarup (portrayed by Satyam Bhattacharya). The narrative is intricately woven with elements of contemporary radical politics, social hierarchy, class struggle, and human relationships.
The trailer provides a sneak peek into “Cabaret,” a compelling tale set in mid-1960s Dinajpur. Khushi Saha, having lost her brother Kinjal to the Naxalite movement, faces further tragedy as her father succumbs to despair. Determined to alter her family’s fate, Khushi ventures to Calcutta. Fate takes a turn when hotel owner Mr. Vijay Shah transforms her into the celebrated cabaret dancer, Miss Elina. Life unfolds with name, fame, and love as she encounters Swarup, a Naxalite militant. Their romance faces turmoil when Pratik, a political heir, pursues Elina, leading to conflict with Mr. Shah. Amidst turmoil, Khushi seeks respite. Will she find it?
Puja Banerjee, stepping into the role of a Cabaret dancer for the first time, expresses her excitement, stating, “I’ve longed for the chance to embody a character that’s entirely novel for me, presenting a fresh image to the audience. Moreover, my fondness for the retro style gets its canvas here, where I have the opportunity to craft it.”
