In a much-anticipated cinematic endeavor, actor Dhanush is set to step into the shoes of the legendary music composer Ilaiyaraaja for an official biopic. Film trade analyst Manobala Vijayabalan has confirmed that the filming for the biopic is scheduled to kick off in October 2024, with a slated release in mid-2025.
The yet-to-be-titled biopic has generated considerable buzz, with fans eagerly awaiting details about the project. Manobala took to social media platform X (formerly Twitter) to share the exciting news. He posted, “Filming for the much-anticipated Official Biopic based on the life and times of the Music Maestro, Isaignani #ILAIYARAAJA with the very versatile and talented #Dhanush portraying the legendary composer on screen to commence on October 2024. Film will release in mid-2025.”
Accompanying the announcement were photos of Dhanush with Ilaiyaraaja, both donned in traditional white ethnic outfits, showcasing a glimpse of the collaboration between the actor and the musical maestro.
Fans expressed their enthusiasm for the upcoming biopic, with one saying, “Wow, waiting for this one,” and another user declaring, “Dhanush to play #ilaiyaraaja in biopic! This is going to be epic.”
Ilaiyaraaja, often referred to as “Isaignani,” has an illustrious career, composing over 7,000 songs and scoring for more than 1,000 films. The maestro has also mesmerized audiences with over 20,000 live performances. Recognized for his exceptional contributions to music, Ilaiyaraaja has been honored with prestigious awards, including the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award, Padma Bhushan, and Padma Vibhushan.
Aside from the biopic, Dhanush has a packed schedule with upcoming projects. He is set to star in D51 alongside Nagarjuna, directed by Sekhar Kammula, featuring Rashmika Mandanna. The film is expected to be a grand-scale production in multiple languages. Additionally, Dhanush is gearing up for “Captain Miller” and has “Tere Ishk Mein” in collaboration with filmmaker Aanand L Rai.
