Actor Karisma Kapoor is currently enjoying the success of her recent film ‘Murder Mubarak’. Her portrayal of Shehnaz Noorani and her undeniable charm have captivated cinephiles. Interestingly, Kapoor has British roots, and her name is pronounced as ‘Karizzma’, not ‘Karishma’.
In a recent roundtable conversation with Netflix, Kapoor discussed her British heritage and the common mispronunciation of her name. She clarified that her name should be pronounced like ‘charisma’ and not as ‘Karishma’, which means ‘miracle’. This revelation surprised her ‘Murder Mubarak’ co-stars Sara Ali Khan, Pankaj Tripathi, Sanjay Kapoor, and Vijay Verma.
Pankaj Tripathi expressed his surprise, saying, “Mujhe toh aaj hi pata chala (I had no idea)”. Sara Ali Khan questioned why Kapoor had never corrected anyone before, to which Kapoor responded, “Because now it’s been forever, call me what you like.” Sara added in astonishment, “But we just found out your name, that’s strange.”
Delving into her British heritage, Kapoor shared that her and Kareena’s grandmother, Barbara, was of British origin. She reminisced about her childhood experiences, saying, “Growing up, we had a club culture. My nani (maternal grandmother) was British, so my grandparents would always go to the club in beautiful sarees and a pearl necklace. We would also accompany them. In a certain way, I have experienced that culture. There were many rules, and there used to be a card room where kids were not allowed. We would peep into the room to see what’s happening and which aunty comes carrying what kind of bag.”
