In a recent interview with Zoom, Kiran Rao shared her perspective on the current landscape of Hindi cinema, expressing optimism about the success of diverse films, regardless of their scale. She highlighted the significance of movies like “12th Fail,” emphasizing their ability to connect with audiences through authentic storytelling, without relying on special effects or star power.
Rao stressed the importance of accommodating a variety of narratives in the film industry and urged a departure from unrealistic expectations tied to box office earnings. While acknowledging the success of big-budget films, she advocated for creating space for smaller, impactful productions like “Laapata Ladies” to thrive.
