In a recent interview with iDreamMedia, Pranay Reddy Vanga, the producer of the film Animal, expressed dissatisfaction with the disparate recognition received by actresses Triptii Dimri and Rashmika Mandanna. Collaborating with his brother Sandeep Reddy Vanga on the film, Pranay suggested that Rashmika Mandanna’s performance has not received the deserved appreciation, especially in comparison to the attention garnered by Triptii Dimri’s cameo appearance.
During the discussion, Pranay addressed criticisms directed at Animal, noting that it primarily originates from English-speaking critics in Mumbai, while the Telugu media has been more forgiving. He also mentioned a perceived effort to undermine Sandeep, stating, “There’s a gang forming; they want to bring him down.” When asked about the reasons behind such efforts, Pranay attributed it to Sandeep being a South Indian making his mark in Mumbai and dictating terms.
Regarding the recognition imbalance between the two actresses, Pranay pointed out the lack of acknowledgment Rashmika Mandanna has received for what he considered her best performance after Ranbir Kapoor and Bobby Deol. He speculated that public relations machinery might be influencing the perception of Rashmika’s role in the film.
Addressing complaints about the film’s alleged anti-feminist tone, Pranay defended Rashmika’s powerful character, Geetanjali, and emphasized that the criticism may be fueled by PR agencies. While acknowledging Triptii Dimri’s fame, Pranay clarified that their production house did not encourage the narrative of Triptii replacing Rashmika, reiterating the distinction between the roles of a wife and a girlfriend.
Pranay highlighted that over three crore people have watched Animal, and it is impossible to please everyone. He emphasized that their satisfaction lies in pleasing 70% of the audience and pointed to the film’s successful box office performance, grossing over Rs 850 crore worldwide since its release earlier in the month. Pranay concluded that as long as the producers and studios are content, there is no cause for concern.
