In a groundbreaking move, accomplished writer and director Sudipta Chakraborty is poised to headline Promita Bhowmik’s upcoming cinematic venture, ‘Ahana.’ Widely recognized for her literary prowess and having directed two short films, Sudipta embarks on her maiden directorial journey in feature filmmaking.
Titled ‘Ahana,’ the film unfolds the compelling narrative of a writer portrayed by Sudipta herself. Breaking away from her conventional roles, Sudipta expressed enthusiasm about tackling this unique character, marking a significant departure from her previous work.
Promita Bhowmik, known for her acclaimed short films ‘Probaho’ and ‘Porichoy,’ collaborates once again with Sudipta, building on their past success in ‘Porichoy’ alongside Koneenica Banerjee. ‘Ahana’ delves into the challenges faced by a female writer as she navigates societal obstacles on her path to self-establishment, irrespective of success.
Adding depth to the storyline, the film features three pivotal male characters. Joy Sengupta takes on the role of Sudipta’s husband, Soumya Sengupta portrays the character of the father-in-law, and Priyobrata Sen Sarkar assumes the role of Ahana’s childhood friend. Promita disclosed that Basabi Ghatak, the daughter of the legendary Bhanu Bandopadhyay, plays a crucial character in the movie.
