In his latest film venture, “Jawan,” Vijay Sethupathi, known for his role in the Hindi film, is eagerly anticipating the release of his upcoming project, “Merry Christmas.” Directed by Sriram Raghavan and featuring Katrina Kaif as the female lead, the film has created buzz in the industry.
In a recent conversation, the actor shared his disappointment regarding the non-selection of the film “Super Deluxe” as India’s official entry for the 2019 Academy Awards. Directed by Thiagarajan Kumararaja, the critically acclaimed movie boasted a star-studded cast including Vijay Sethupathi, Samantha, Fahadh Faasil, Ramya Krishnan, and Mysskin. The storyline intricately wove together four parallel plots unfolding on the same day.
Vijay Sethupathi’s portrayal of a transgender man in the film, a role he accepted without remuneration due to his admiration for the story, added depth to the narrative. He recounted a poignant scene in which his on-screen son questioned why he was born male and had to navigate life as a transgender individual.
Expressing his disappointment alongside fans, Sethupathi spoke to Bollywood Hungama about the heartbreak he felt when “Super Deluxe” was overlooked for India’s official entry, with “Gully Boy” taking the spot. He attributed the decision to political dynamics, emphasizing his desire for the film to have received Oscar recognition. Acknowledging certain undisclosed circumstances, the actor chose not to delve further into the matter.
