In a recent development, convicted murderer James Parker has been granted parole for his involvement in the 2001 stabbing deaths of Half and Suzanne Zantop, Dartmouth professors. This decision comes after producers Randy and Steven Toll acquired the rights to “Judgment Ridge,” a true crime book chronicling the chilling murders, and tapped Matthew Gentile to direct the film adaptation.
Authored by Dick Lehr and Mitchell Zuckoff, “Judgment Ridge” draws parallels to Truman Capote’s “In Cold Blood” as it explores the disturbing motives behind the killings. Parker, who was 16 at the time, conspired with his friend Robert Tulloch to carry out the murders in hopes of funding a move to Australia and escaping their mundane lives in Vermont. Tulloch, sentenced to life without parole, is also facing a resentencing hearing in June.
Gentile, known for his work on “American Murderer,” will helm the adaptation. His debut feature garnered critical acclaim and secured distribution deals with Lionsgate/Saban Films and Universal Pictures. The Tolls, with a track record of producing notable titles, including “The Novice” and the upcoming comedy “The Fabulous Four,” are set to bring this gripping story to the screen.
Gentile, represented by Zero Gravity Management and Goodman, Genow, Schenkman, brings a wealth of experience, including accolades for his AFI Conservatory thesis films. With his expertise and the Tolls’ production prowess, “Judgment Ridge” promises to captivate audiences worldwide.
