Sandalwood mourns the loss of veteran actor, director, and producer Dwarakish, who passed away today at the age of 81 after battling a prolonged age-related illness. Reports indicate that the actor succumbed to a heart attack. The Sandalwood community has taken to social media to express their grief over the demise of the iconic actor.
Dwarakish, who began his journey in the film industry during the 1960s, was known for directing blockbuster Kannada films such as “Mayor Mutthana” and “Apthamithra,” both produced under his home banner. These films shattered numerous box office records. Before venturing into films, Dwarakish spent his early years in Mysuru as a businessman. His passion for cinema eventually led him to the industry.
The late actor was related to the renowned film director Hunsur Krishnamurthy and had the privilege of sharing the screen with legendary actors like Rajkumar and Vishnuvardhan, with whom he shared a special bond. His on-screen chemistry in films like “Kittu Puttu” and “Khiladigalu” was widely acclaimed.
Dwarakish also holds the distinction of being the first person from the Sandalwood industry to shoot a Kannada movie, “Singapooradali Rajakulla,” outside of India in 1978.
Recognizing his immense contribution to the Kannada film industry, Dwarakish was awarded an honorary doctorate and was honored by the Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce when he turned 80.
His mortal remains will be kept for public viewing at his residence in Electronic City, and he is expected to be laid to rest tomorrow.
