Vijayakanth’s health took a downturn after he was admitted to a private hospital in Chennai on December 27 and subsequently tested positive for COVID-19. The 71-year-old actor’s condition worsened on the morning of December 28, marking the end of an era. The official announcement of Vijayakanth’s demise was made by the hospital management, following which his mortal remains were transported to his residence.
After a brief period at his home, Vijayakanth’s mortal remains were transferred to the actor’s party office in Koyambedu, Chennai. Fans and celebrities were given the opportunity to pay their final respects during this time. Due to traffic considerations in Koyambedu, the late actor’s mortal remains were later moved to Island Grounds, Chennai, for a public homage.
The final journey of Vijayakanth is scheduled to commence post 1 PM today (December 29) from Island Grounds. The actor is set to be cremated at the DMDK party office around 4:45 PM, with the Chief Minister’s announcement ensuring he receives state honors.
