Actor Ashok Selvan and Vasanth Ravi are set to star in the upcoming Tamil film ‘Pon Ondru Kanden’. The teaser for the romantic entertainer was recently launched, and the film is scheduled for release on April 14. Initially, the movie was planned to have a direct release on a satellite channel. However, the cast and crew expressed their disappointment with the producer’s decision.
In the film, Ashok Selvan portrays the character of a doctor, while Aishwarya Lekshmi plays a chef. ‘Pon Ondru Kanden’ has received a U/A certification and is gearing up for its release.
Director Priya V helms the project, which also features Ashok Selvan, Vasanth Ravi, and Aishwarya Lekshmi in pivotal roles. The movie revolves around a triangular love story, with music composed by Yuvan Shankar Raja.
Recently, Vasanth Ravi took to social media to express his discontent regarding the producers’ decision-making process. He tweeted, “Shocking!! Is this even true?? Especially from a reputed and leading production house like Jio Studios? Extremely painful and disheartening to see the promo of ‘Pon Ondru Kanden’ and the announcement of the World Satellite Premiere without any communication to Ashok Selvan, Aishwarya Lekshmi, Yuvan Shankar Raja sir, V Priya Ma’am, or anyone associated with the film! We have worked really hard for this film. The whole team of ‘Pon Ondru Kanden’ is totally unaware and not being informed about this at all!! Thank you, Jio Studios, for being so kind; your respect for the team of PonOndruKanden has only increased multiple times for keeping us posted about it only through X! A creator or artist does not have a say in your commercial decision aspects for his or her artistic work once it is given to the producer, but at least they deserve respect to be informed about it through you and not from an online portal such as X or Instagram.”
In response to the backlash from the film’s cast and crew, the producers have resolved the internal issues. It has been confirmed that ‘Pon Ondru Kanden’ will now directly premiere on the OTT platform owned by Jio Studios.
Additionally, it has been announced that Kamal Haasan’s cult classic ‘Sathyaa’ is set to be remade, with Ashok Selvan slated to play the lead role.
