In a surprising turn of events, Ajay Devgn made his film debut with the blockbuster hit “Phool Aur Kaante” in 1991, a role initially offered to Akshay Kumar. The film was a massive success, captivating audiences with its gripping storyline, memorable songs, and adrenaline-pumping action sequences. One of the film’s most iconic moments was Devgn’s dramatic entry, standing atop two moving motorcycles.
Interestingly, both Devgn and Kumar began their acting careers in the same year. Akshay Kumar marked his debut with “Saugandh,” directed by Raj Sippy.
Before entering the film industry, Ajay Devgn assisted his father, renowned action director Veeru Devgan, on film sets during his college days. A chance encounter with “Phool Aur Kaante” director Kuku Kohli at his home led to Devgn being offered the lead role. Despite initial hesitation due to his young age of 18, Devgn’s impressive recitation of dialogues from Amitabh Bachchan’s films convinced Kohli. Devgn ultimately agreed to the role after learning that Akshay Kumar was not available.
The camaraderie between Devgn and Kumar extends beyond the big screen. The two actors share a close friendship and have collaborated on multiple films, including “Suhaag,” “Insaan,” “Khakhee,” and most recently, Rohit Shetty’s “Sooryavanshi.” Excitingly, the duo is set to reunite once again for Shetty’s upcoming film “Singham Again,” scheduled to hit theaters on August 15th, 2024.
