Renowned Bollywood actor Bobby Deol recently shared his perspective on character portrayal, emphasizing his inclination towards roles that challenge him and push his boundaries. Speaking at the press conference of the 22nd Zee Cine Awards 2024, Deol expressed a desire to break away from the traditional categorization of characters as either negative or positive.
Deol asserted, “I want to do work that is out of my comfort zone, challenging me, and pushes me to bring out the best in me. I hope I keep getting work like that.” The actor highlighted the evolving landscape of cinema and storytelling, noting the disappearance of rigid distinctions between comedians, villains, and heroes.
Reflecting on his recent role as an antagonist in the film “Animal,” directed by Sandeep Reddy Vanga and featuring Ranbir Kapoor, Deol acknowledged the challenge of playing a negative character. Despite the polarized reviews of the film, Deol received praise for his performance and the song ‘Jamal Jamalkudu.’
Deol shared his perspective on playing negative roles, stating, “Every human being has a bad thing in them. It gives you the opportunity to let that bad out, and perform and enjoy those negative characters.” He emphasized that his character in “Animal,” Abrar, had a strong reason for his actions and did not view himself as a villain but rather as the hero of his family.
The actor, nominated in the best villain category for his performance in “Animal” at Zee Cine Awards 2024, expressed gratitude for the recognition. Deol views awards as a form of appreciation for hard work and acknowledged the support of his fans throughout his 28-year career in the industry.
“Just to be nominated makes it special. It gives me more happiness because my fans get so happy about me winning an award,” he said, appreciating the continuous love and support from his fans.
Deol also revealed his excitement about performing at the award show, describing the stage as more challenging than playing characters. He promised an entertaining performance and dedicated it to his fans, referring to the previous year as “Deol’s year.”
