Emraan Hashmi Addresses Perceptions of Bollywood’s Negative Image
In a recent interview, Bollywood actor Emraan Hashmi shared his perspective on the prevailing negative perception of the film industry. The actor, set to play a film producer in the upcoming project ‘Showtime’, expressed concern over what he considers to be an unfair portrayal of Bollywood.
According to Hashmi, there has been a notable increase in negative perceptions over the past three years, particularly surrounding issues like drugs, wild parties, and promiscuity. He emphasized that while every industry experiences misconduct, Bollywood appears to be disproportionately targeted.
Hashmi argued that the film industry has become a “soft target” for criticism, particularly on social media. He disputed the notion that success in Bollywood is reserved only for “nepo kids” (referring to individuals with familial ties in the industry) and pointed out numerous success stories of outsiders making their mark.
Acknowledging the diversity within the industry, Hashmi described Bollywood as a secular space where people from various backgrounds unite to entertain audiences. He suggested that some individuals criticize the industry for personal fame, as the spotlight on Bollywood provides a platform for public attention.
Directed by Mihir Desai and Archit Kumar, ‘Showtime’ features a star-studded cast, including Rajeev Khandelwal, Mouni Roy, Naseeruddin Shah, Mahima Makwana, and Shriya Saran.
