Bobby Deol’s Stellar Comeback Triggers Reflection on Iconic Roles
Last year marked a triumphant return for Bobby Deol, whose portrayal of Abrar Haque in Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s ‘Animal’ earned widespread acclaim. Yet, amidst this recent success, it’s worth revisiting Bobby’s earlier heyday in the 90s, where his captivating style and on-screen charm endeared him to audiences.
Following his breakout in ‘Barsaat’ (1995), Bobby Deol secured a pivotal role in Abbas-Mustan’s directorial venture, ‘Soldier’ (1998). Despite the eventual impact of the film on his career, his father and veteran actor, Dharmendra, initially expressed reservations about the script.
In a recent interview with Radio Nasha Official, the celebrated director duo Abbas-Mustan shared insights into casting Bobby Deol for ‘Soldier’. They disclosed that while Bobby eagerly embraced the role, his father insisted on reviewing the script before giving his nod of approval.
Upon hearing the storyline, Dharmendra expressed discomfort with the plot, particularly a scene where Bobby’s character kills his father figure, played by Dilip Tahil. Abbas recalled Dharmendra’s immediate reaction, stating, “My son will not do this role where he kills people.” However, after being urged to hear the entire narrative, Dharmendra relented, acknowledging the film’s compelling twists and turns.
‘Soldier’, an action-packed thriller starring Bobby Deol and Preity Zinta, became a box office sensation upon its release, with Bobby’s trademark wavy locks and memorable tunes captivating audiences nationwide.
