In the latest edition of his radio broadcast, ‘Mann Ki Baat,’ Prime Minister Narendra Modi reflected on India’s notable achievements in the realm of international cinema. Highlighting India’s dual Oscar victories in 2023, PM Modi expressed joy over the recognition received by the song ‘Naatu Naatu’ from SS Rajamouli’s film ‘RRR’ and the documentary ‘The Elephant Whisperers.’
PM Modi shared, “Friends, the entire nation celebrated when ‘Naatu Naatu’ secured the Oscar, and the honor bestowed upon ‘The Elephant Whisperers’ added to our pride. Through these accomplishments, the world witnessed India’s creativity and our deep connection with the environment.”
Making history at the Oscars 2023, ‘Naatu Naatu’ clinched the award for Best Original Song. Prior to this, the song had already earned accolades on the global stage, winning the Golden Globes in the ‘Best Original Song’ category in January.
Further solidifying its success, ‘RRR’ secured two more accolades at the 28th Critics Choice Awards, winning Best Song and Best Foreign Language Film. The song, released in multiple languages including Hindi, Tamil, Kannada, and Malayalam, resonated across diverse audiences. Its Hindi rendition was performed by Rahul Sipligunj and Vishal Mishra.
In a significant milestone for Indian cinema, the documentary ‘The Elephant Whisperers,’ directed by Kartiki Gonsalves and produced by Guneet Monga, emerged as the first Indian production to claim an Oscar in the documentary short film category. The recognition underscored India’s prowess in filmmaking on the global stage.
