In a recent development, the man responsible for burglarizing the residence of veteran Malayalam film director Joshiy in Panampilly Nagar, Kochi, has been apprehended by authorities in Udupi, Karnataka. Muhammad Irfan, a resident of Bihar, was arrested after attempting to flee with stolen jewelry worth over Rs 1 crore.
The robbery took place in the early hours of the morning at Joshiy’s home, where gold and diamond ornaments were stolen. According to On Manorama, the incident occurred around 1:30 am when the thief gained entry through a window leading to the kitchen. Despite Joshiy and his son, director Abhilash, being absent at the time, the thief managed to ransack the bedroom cupboard and make off with a significant amount of valuables.
After the burglary, the Kerala police initiated an extensive investigation, aided by CCTV footage recovered from the scene. The footage captured a man wearing a hat approaching the window and gaining entry into the premises. However, the suspect’s identity remained unknown until authorities traced the stolen items to a car registered in Maharashtra.
Acting swiftly upon receiving information about the vehicle’s location, Karnataka police apprehended Muhammad Irfan while he was en route to Bihar after committing the robbery in Kochi. The car, which was found to contain the stolen jewelry, was seized by authorities as evidence.
Efforts are now underway to transport the accused back to Kochi, where he will face charges related to the burglary. Additionally, police are investigating the possibility of local involvement in the crime, suspecting that the thief may have received assistance from individuals familiar with Joshiy’s residence.
Meanwhile, on the professional front, Joshiy is set to collaborate with Mohanlal after a long hiatus with their upcoming film ‘Rambaan’.
