In a recent revelation, filmmaker Vidhu Vinod Chopra disclosed that Shah Rukh Khan was initially considered for the lead role in the iconic film ‘1942 A Love Story’, which eventually starred Anil Kapoor. Chopra, speaking at the Kellogg School of Management, reminisced about offering the role to Shah Rukh Khan, citing his previous work and the connection through his then-wife Renuka Saluja, who had edited a film featuring Khan.
Chopra’s association with Khan didn’t end there; he later offered him the lead role in ‘Munnabhai MBBS’, urging him to take time for recovery after a surgery. However, due to complications, Khan had to step away from the project, leading Chopra to cast Sanjay Dutt instead.
Interestingly, Chopra also revealed that Madhuri Dixit was initially approached for a role in ‘1942 A Love Story’, which eventually went to Manisha Koirala. The film, known for its outstanding music and memorable performances, remains a cornerstone in Kapoor’s career.
